I think when you play any MMO you have to expect to be exposed to information that will "ruin" the game. Especially when the game is as old as it is.
I remember back in August 2005 making a character specifically for the run from Beacon's to Drok's. Effectively allowing any new player with about 2 plat (think it fluctuated from 1.5-3k while I was running it) to skip loads of missions including ascension. Is that ruining the game for them? I realize not all new characters are new players but sometimes that is the case; they just want to get to the end of the game so they can play with everyone else. Is allowing them that opportunity ruining the game experience? Is it ruining it for all the experienced players who have to deal with the "noobs" in end game areas?

In my opinion, if a person chooses to use wiki or get a droks run or ask for information about the story, than its not ruining the game for them because they are asking for it. It is that person's choice to seek the information about the game. However, revealing spoilers to new players is a pretty asshole move. Personally, if I were a new player, I would want to play through the campaigns and experience the major storylines myself.
When I started to play skyrim, my bro had the official strategy guide. While I let myself look at entries about equipment and gameplay, I refused to look at any information about the main plot or about the quests until after I had played through those quests for the first time.

As a creator of a very specific...I'll say "guide"...I would hope my work is not ruining the experience for my fellow players. My particular video series is made in the hopes of helping members of the community to accomplish a task that they may not normally even attempt to accomplish. My farming guides are not made with a "you must do it this way or you will be very bad at it" mindset; rather, I explain what the problems that are faced are and what some possible options are to face these problems. The videos show my particular answer to problems faced while farming a specific area/item/etc. but I do always heavily encourage viewers to try new things and come up with their own answers. I give suggestions and let people try their own thing.

There a couple new members in our alliance who only get to play every now and then. I was busy with real life stuff (i.e. not playing hardly at all) when they started in GW. Another of our members took it upon himself to 'show them the ropes'. Because he believes the only reason to play GW now is to prep for GW2, regardless of how long you've been ingame or may actually want as the experience, he managed to zerg them through missions, etc., so that they have very little idea of what the story actually is. Not only that, but they missed the vast majority of the skills quests and learning other things they would have normally discovered if they'd played per usual. To their understanding, the missions were "it".
I brought the whole zerg thing up to the group - and these guys have now slowed down a bit. They're learning a whole lot of things, enjoying their experience more (I think/hope). It makes more sense.
Wiki doesn't have to ruin anything. If you're stuck on a mission or a quest and no one is around to help, then it's a good source for help. If you read through every single mission on Wiki before you ever step foot outside Ascalon, then you have only cheated yourself.
